Registration for the Winter basketball for the 2023-24 season opens up on 9/4. SPA offers several levels of basketball: K-1 program, 2nd grade program, rec and travel.
The K-1 program is opened to boys and girls in kindergarten and in 1st graders. Over the past two years, and due to lack of gyms, we partnered up with 2 other Parkland youth programs and did 30 minutes of practice/30 minute scrimmage on Saturdays starting in a January. We have not discussed this year's program, but we should have something finalized by Oct. We are looking for 8-10 parents to volunteer to help run practices and to help support this level.
The boys and girls 2nd grade will have a practice during the week and a scrimmage on the weekends. Practices will begin in December and games will begin in January and go to the end of February. We are looking for a several parents to volunteer to coach these teams. More information to come this Fall. Games are played within the Parkland SD or within 25 minutes
Rec leagues: Rec teams are formed for boys at the 3/4th, 5/6th, 7/8th, 9/10th and 11/12th grade levels. Girls rec team are formed at 3/4th, 5/6th, 7/8th. All rec games are played with a Parkland SD gym on Saturdays or Sundays. These teams will start having practices once a week in December and start playing games In January. Season ends in late February. No tryouts are needed. We will try to keep a team's roster at 10-11 players.
Travel teams: We have two leagues that we can place a travel team. Lehigh Valley Basketball Knee-Hi League or The Rising Stars League. Both leagues games are played within the LV area. The LVBKL divisions: Boys 3/4th grade, 5th grade, 5/6th grade, 7th grade, and 7/8th grade level. Some organizations don't have a lot of players which there 5th grades or 7th grades need to play in the blended division. For the girls divisions: 3/4th, 5/6th and 7/8th.
Please visit the SPA basketball page for more information regarding the tryout dates. More Information to come.
The Rising Stars League offers: Boys 3/4th, 5/6th, 7/8th, 9/10th and 11/12th. For the girls, 3/4th, 5/6th, 7/8th, and a HS division.
Travel teams will begin practices in Nov and games will begin in December. Both leagues finish up in late February.
Players will need to attend the assigned tryout time for there grade. Times, date and location TBA.
Rec registration will close on 12/1 or if needed, will close earlier if all the teams' rosters are filled. Travel Registration will close on the day of tryouts. No refunds will be given once a player is signed up. All players must be registered at the time of tryouts.
Practice times are setup by the coach. Practices are held at Schnecksville, Ironton, Kernsville or at OMS. Travel teams are given 2 90 practices a week. Rec teams are given 1-1hr practice timeslots a week with a 2nd practice on Saturdays in December. We try to schedule the younger kids at 6pm during the weekdays and end with the HS kids at 9pm. We rent the gyms from PSD from 6-10pm during the weekday. Elementary schools gyms are not available for the weekends until December. Please keep in mind that school activities come first, so we don't always get every school gym Monday- Friday.
Coaches are needed at all levels. Please contact Ed Kearney if interested at Ekearney@PTD.NET
There will be a coaches meeting on 10/2 at OMS gym at 8pm. If Interested at any level, please attend.
We are looking for additional volunteers to help run the basketball program this year. Please attend the meeting on 10/2.
