2024/2025 Basketball Information

Travel registration will close on 10/6,

Rec registration will close no later 11/15 or when a team is filled.

The K-1 program will begin in early December and go until the last weekend in Feb.  K-1 boys and girls will practice together on Saturday morning. Time TBA.

The 2nd graders will practice once a week on Tuesdays (subject to change) from 6-7pm at Kernsville.  Games will be played on the weekends at various local youth group organizations. Games last 60 minutes. We will try to maintain the proper level of kids per a team, which 12 players will be a max on a team.  No tryouts are needed for the 2nd graders.  Players will be assigned to a team.  

Travel tryouts will be held in early Oct. All players MUST be registered to tryout. NO REFUNDS once a player is registered.  Players need to attend the tryouts to be placed on a travel team. 

Travel teams play teams from other youth organization in the Lehigh Valley.   If a player is not selected for a travel team, they will be placed automatically onto a rec team.

Practices times are determined by the coach.  Most games are played on the weekends, but some youth organizations may play their home games during the weekend and their gum availability.  Travel teams will begin practicing in early Nov. and games usually start in early December.  

The rec teams will start in December.  They practice throughout the month of December and begin games in January.  Most of the rec games are played on Saturdays and last 60 minutes. The rec season ends the last week in February. The is a developmental league with players that have various skill sets. A player can't play in the travel league and in the rec league. Also, player that makes the middle school team, can't play for a rec team.

We will close a grade level once we have enough players to fill out a roster. We will need coaches for all levels.  All coaches must have completed their background checks.

No REFUNDS will be granted once a player has been registered. All practices will be held at either Kernsville, Ironton, or Schnecksville Elementary school gyms. The travel team home games will be played on Sunday which will be determined by the Travel league directors.

Sunday Oct 6th at North Whitehall Township Basketball Courts.  

Sunday Oct 6th on Court 3 at North Whitehall Township Basketball Courts. The courts are located 3256 Levans Rd Coplay PA.

Boys 7/8th grade: 9-10:30am

Girls 3/4th grade: 10:45a-11:45pm

Girls 5/6th grade: 12-1pm.

Boys 3/4th grade 1:15pm-2:30pm.

Boys 5/6th grade: 2:45pm-4pm.

Additional travel tryouts

Due to space, parents will not be allowed inside the gym

Sunday Oct. 13 at Orefield Middle School

Boys 3/4th grade 10-11am

Monday  Oct.14th at Orefield Middle School

Girls 3/4th grade 6-7pm.

Boys 5/6th grade 7-8pm.

Boys 7/8th grade 8-9:15pm.

Monday Oct 21st at Orefield Middle School

Girls 3/4th grade 6-7pm

Girls 5/6th grade 6-7pm.

Boys 3/4th grade 7:15-8:15pm

 Due to limited space, no parents will be allowed in the gyms during tryouts. Drills and game play will be conducted by coaches and the coordinator. 

Volunteers are needed to help run the basketball program. See below for jobs and responsibilities.

Organize the game and practice schedules for all teams. 

Distribute uniforms for travel 

Distribute uniforms for rec teams.

Distribute the basketball and equipment to all teams. 

League rep for travel league. Meet once a month Sept.-Feb.

Coordinate the rec schedule for the boys and girls 5/6th teams.  Make the schedule for the team in the rec league. Partner up with the other 2 youth organizations.

Organize the team picture schedule for all teams.

About SPA

The Schnecksville Playground Association (SPA) is located in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania. Schnecksville is about 8 miles North of Allentown on Route 309 in a suburban residential community in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. The association is run entirely by volunteers dedicated to providing youth sports programs such as baseball, basketball, lacrosse and the SPA summer camp for the children in and around this community.
